It is an honor for me to serve as the President of the AUSD Board of Education.  During my tenure, we have made great strides in AUSD.  Our school district is vibrant and our students are thriving. We have updated schools across Alameda to improve classrooms and educational facilities; implemented a thriving transitional kindergarten program for our youngest learners, and extended kindergarten to a full day. 

We have strong community partnerships in place to provide mental health services and targeted interventions to keep students healthy so they can learn to their full potential.  We have implemented curriculum upgrades in Math, Social Studies, and Ethnic Studies and for the first time, literacy rates for African American students are improving. 

Enrollment is up, chronic absenteeism is down, and we exited state oversight for the overidentification of children of color for special education services.  In partnership with the College of Alameda, we increased dual enrollment and summer school opportunities for students.

Professionally, I am an Administrative Law Judge and my legal skills helped successfully defend a lawsuit challenging our local parcel tax that supports our schools. Unlike many districts surrounding Alameda, we are fiscally sound and have labor peace.  Together with our AUSD staff and the families we serve, we are building a school district that has become a vital part of our community; one where all of our students can learn to their full potential and become self-sufficient young adults. 

I am committed to continuing this progress, and ensuring that our strides become institutionalized in the foundation of our district.  Join me for another four years!  It is an honor for me to serve Alameda children and families, and I would appreciate your vote.
